A Portage la Prairie school's won a national award from Physical and Health Education Canada. La Verendrye School Phys. Ed. Teacher Mark Sokolowski explains the details of the award.

"Well it's an award from Phys. Ed. Health and Education Canada. This is the 18th year that we've won it in-a-row. So it's a National Award and it basically recognizes schools across Canada that meet a certain criteria for their students."

Sokolowski says they have some amazing programs at LVS.

"Some of the things we did this year that are additions is we has a 10 week Yoga Program. We had a qualified Yoga instructor come out from Winnipeg and give us 10 weeks of Yoga for Grade 8's and Grade 4. We had the Hockey Program that our Grade 6's were part of. We've done some different assessment ideas as well, just sort of tweaking how we assess in Phys. Ed."

He says it's an award the whole school can be proud of.

"It's always nice when you get recognition of what you're doing, and that what you're doing is beneficial to the kids. So it's definitely a school approach too, it's not just the Phys. Ed. teachers Myself, Stephanie and Jala. Every body pitches in, that's why it's such a nice award, because every body has a hand in it."
