A service was held earlier today by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65 at Stride Place in honour of Remembrance Day. They laid wreaths by a monument to honour fallen soldiers. Zone 23 commander Dan Boyse led the service for the third time this year, and was pleased with the turnout. In attendance was the Ecole Arthur Meighen School Choir.

"It's always good to have young people involved in remembrance," explains Boyse. "The next generation needs to know about the sacrifices the Veterans have made in the past."

The choir sang a number of songs during the service, inculding Oh Canada, and God Save the Queen.

Boyse says if someone could take away one thing from the service, he hopes it would be "lest we forget". He explains his view on the phrase and how it has two meanings to him; remembrance, and warning.

"We must always remember the sacrifices that people have made on our behalf so we can live in a peaceful and free society," says Boyse. "And the warning is that we must always remember the cost of war. War is pain, war is suffering... war is loss. So we must always remember to try -- if we can -- to not repeat the history of war."
