There were several barbeques on today in Portage la Prairie.

The Douglas Campbell Lodge held their second annual barbeque and Recreation Manager Corrine Pratt says it was a great day with beautiful weather and an excellent turnout. She notes they saw about 180 customers and sold out of hot dogs.

She shares what the proceeds go toward.

"We're raising money toward some extra things to buy for our residents through our recreation department. We're actually wanting to get some nice new stoves for our baking program."

Pratt says this year's barbeque was bigger and better than the one the year before. She adds the sale was made all the better thanks to their junior volunteers who helped out and Simplot who donated fries and also volunteered.

People lined up for the Douglas Campbell Lodge's barbeque.

Plenty of people supported the barbeque for PAWS.

Another one of the barbeques which took place today was held at Best West Pet Foods and all the funds raised went to the Portage Animal Welfare Society.

A barbeque fundraiser for the Fort la Reine Museum also took place today. Museum Executive Director Tracey Turner notes it was a beautiful day for it.

"It's an exceptional day, it's a beautiful, sunny Friday and people have been coming out to support the Fort la Reine Museum which is fantastic. Without the community's support we'd be nothing so we're really pleased to see the turnout."

She adds the turnout was steady throughout the day.

Turner explains they're currently fundraising for a number of issues including their programs and exhibitions as well as conservation efforts for the buildings and artifacts.
