Winnipeg artist Valerie Wilson's fibre art exhibit is on display now the Portage and District Arts Centre.

The exhibit is called 'A Moment in Time', and the opening was earlier tonight. Many local art enthusiasts stopped by to see the stunning artwork. Wilson describes her work.

"Some people call it fabric painting. It's using small pieces of fabric, and fitting them together kind of like a puzzle, so you end up with the effect -- from a distance -- of looking at a painting rather than a quilt -- which is what they are."

Wilson says she's always been interested in creating things, starting with making clothing when she was a child. She says that quickly progressed.

"Macrame and folk art painting, and all kinds of different crafts I guess you could call them. I thought I'd like to do quilting, and I started with traditional quilts like a lot of other people. Then I decided I wanted to do pictures and this is the result. I ended up doing these vintage portraits."

Wilson's excited for her first showing at the PDAC, and says it's an amazing gallery.
