Five Canadians are among the dead following yesterday's explosion at a resort in Mexico's Playa del Carmen.

Six more were injured, with two listed as critical. It's believed the blast was caused by leaking gas.

Cynthia Fiddler, of Total Travel in Portage, understands what's happened may cause some people to change their travel plans.

Fiddler doesn't believe the explosion will have a significant impact on the travel industry, but sympathizes with the families of those who died, and are injured. She hasn't heard any concerns from clients, so far.

Meanwhile, Carey Duncan of Travel Quest agrees the explosion won't have a large effect on the travel industry, although the exact cause will be a factor.

She doesn't have any clients in the region at the moment, but will have soon, so she's keping a close eye on the situation.
