We may be out of blizzard territory, but we're not done with the winter storm just yet.
Many highways remain closed, and there are snow drifts on streets all through the Central Plains.
City of Portage la Prairie crews are out and about clearing everything, and although we can see improvements, you're still asked to stay home.
"Little bit longer. Keep holding tight, stay off the roads, follow the same precautions that we were talking about earlier this week and yesterday," says Natalie Hasell, warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada. "Even though conditions are generally better, it's still worth being patient, avoiding putting yourself in a bad way, especially unnecessarily, when you know conditions could be bad somewhere, don't go."
All available snow removal crews and equipment are on the roads clearing snow again today. While primary routes are being cleared, there are currently high ridges of snow, some as high as 3 feet, that are impassable at some intersections. Please avoid driving if possible. pic.twitter.com/FSRq1KWDYD

The weather station at Southport was recording northerly wind gusts over 50 kilometres per hour for most of yesterday, and gusts around 40 kilometres per hour for most of the morning today. Hasell said, around 9 a.m. today, that snow drifts will continue to be a problem as the wind would gust for a bit longer.
"We are expecting winds to gust today, to 50 kilometres an hour, so that will certainly be enough to continue picking up the snow and blowing it around," says Hasell. "Snow and blowing snow is expected today. The snow continues tonight. We should be out of it by tomorrow. There'll be still a little bit more snow tomorrow, but very little accumulation is expected, and the winds are not as strong tomorrow either."
