Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment have been showcasing a different kind of exhibit that will allow patrons to chance to walk through it, as opposed to just seeing the artwork on the walls.

Manager of gallery operations Lee Beaton explains Monique Martin has made an exhibit titled "Context is Everything."

"There are paper dandelions on the floor, most people say this reminds them of their yard when they're looking at it," notes Beaton. "along with the dandelions, there are the paper butterflies. She's made four different styles of butterflies and it's a very unique exhibition."

She adds, there are pathways throughout the exhibition which will allow visitors to either look low toward the dandelions or look high to get a closer look at the butterflies. There are about 2,500 butterflies, and a whopping 3,000 dandelions made for the exhibit. Martin will be selling some of her extra dandelions as well, with the proceeds going to the Community Foundation of Portage & District.

Beaton explains Melanie Barnett is also showcasing an exhibit, called "Detritus." The exhibit is designed to foreshadow humanity as the climate crisis continues to worsen. While some may view the artwork as quite grisly, Beaton says it's beautiful as well.

"It follows the idea of decay and what happens after and creating bodies and then she's included like little spores and mushrooms," explains Beaton. "It's just a fascinating exhibit where she's done a lot of research. She's made something that might be grotesque or gory, and she's made it very interesting with her use of and choice of colours."

She adds when you attend the exhibitions you can read a little bit into the thought process and concepts behind the art pieces.

Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and you must show proof of vaccination prior to entry.
