Daylight saving will be taking place between Saturday and Sunday, where we'll push the clock back for a 25-hour day.

Portage city councillor Melissa Draycott says, while it's nice to get that extra bit of sleep, she wants you to remember to cover your bases around the house as well.

"It's also an important time to change your batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms," explains Draycott. "So, if you haven't done that already, then this weekend is the time for you to do that."

She adds that carbon-monoxide alarms should also be placed in central locations in your house, as well as outside bedrooms. There are more than 300 deaths in Canada per year due to carbon-monoxide poisoning.

"For your best protection, the fire department does suggest interconnecting all CO alarms throughout the home," notes Draycott. "That way, when one sounds, they all sound and it's just always a good reminder from the fire department that when you change your clocks to change your batteries."

She mentions you should also change and interconnect your smoke alarms. Daylight saving will have Sunday repeat it's 2 a.m. hour.
