The Portage Terriers have partnered with grain elevators in the area to help form their brand new crop club.

Marketing coordinator Cody Buhler says when farmers bring their harvest to the elevator they can designate a portion of it to go to the Terriers’ organization and with that they would become a member of the club. He talks about the benefits farmers will receive.

“We’ve got some perks that we’re looking forward to giving them this year, including getting recognized at a home game,” Buhler explains. “They get to come out to a home game and have some fun with us during the season.”

Buhler also outlines which grain elevators are participating.

“We have six elevators that have joined us this year as partners,” says Buhler. “G3, Parrish and Heimbecker Gladstone and Rathwell (both locations), Delmar Commodities Gladstone and West Rock (both locations), and Hensall Co-op. So, when a farmer goes to one of those elevators just say how many bushels to donate to the Terriers’ and they will take that portion off and donate it directly to our hockey team.”

Buhler knows farming is a huge part of the community with many farmers being season ticket holders and loyal fans. They just wanted to create another way for people to be able to help the hockey team in a very unique year.
