No red ink's expected on the City of Portage la Prairie's books for 2006.

The third quarter forecast predicts a $9100.00 surplus in the General Operating Fund, and $48,000.00 left over in the Utility Fund. That's less than the second quarter prediction, where the General Fund surplus was pegged at $46,000.00.

Councillor Dave Quinn isn't concerned, and is glad they've been able to maintain a small surplus. He notes they had to use other reserves to achieve that.

Quinn points out project costs spiked earlier this year, with increases in the cost of fuel and other products. He calls the forecast good news in light of economic swings this year.
