Canada's record is 2 and 0 at the World Junior Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic.

Kyle Turris scored both Canadian goals in a 2-0 victory over Slovakia on Thursday. Turris scored 54 seconds into the second period while Canada enjoyed a two-man advantage and added his second of the game on the powerplay with 6:40 remaining in the third. Steve Mason stopped 22 shots in recording the shutout. Canada's next game is Saturday against Sweden.

Dale McTavish, Ryan Keller and Serge Aubin scored third period goals as Canada downed host HC Davos 6-2 to improve to 2 and 0 at the Spengler Cup Hockey Tournament in Switzerland. Mike Siklenka, Yannick Tremblay and Andre Benoit also scored for the Canadians who have today off and will face Salavat Yulaev Ufa of Russia on Saturday.

Team West will play it's lone tune-up game tonight prior to Saturday's start of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Team West, which consists of 11 players from Manitoba and 11 from Saskatchewan, will take on Finland this evening in Strathroy, Ontario. Team West will play it's first game of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge tomorrow against Germany in Lucan, Ontario.

Hayley Wickenheiser, who helped Canada win Gold at the World Women's Hockey Championship in Winnipeg this past April, has been selected our country's Female Athlete of the Year. Wickenheiser beat out freestyle skier Jennifer Heil and Winnipeg speedskater Cindy Klassen who won the award in 2005 and 2006.
