Many Portage la Prairie producers are heading west to the Wheat City for Manitoba Ag Days this week.

It all kicks off with Canola Day on Tuesday in the FCC Theatre at the Keystone Centre in Brandon.

Roberta Galbraith is the Grower Engagement Manager with the Manitoba Canola Growers Association and says it'll be a busy morning for those interested in the crop.

"Justine Cornelsen (Agronomy Specialist, Canola Council of Canada) will be at the top of the docket that day," says Galbraith. "She's going to talk about blackleg, managing blackleg, and race identification and how that might change your management practices."

That talk gets underway at 9:15am. The second talk will be by Angela Brackenreed, an Agronomy Specialist with the Canola Council of Canada and is scheduled for 9:45.

"(Brackenreed) is going to talk about harvest management, and in particular, look at the economics around harvest management, and how you can get more out of your crop just by doing a few little things differently with combine settings and ensuring you're getting everything you can out of the field."

The third talk will see Dan Orchard (agronomy specialist, Canola Council of Canada), John Guelly (Director, Alberta Canola Producers Association) and Michael Weir (agronomist, Pioneer Hi-Bred) team up to discuss Clubroot and what producers need to know. The morning wraps up with David Derwin (Commodity Portfolio Manager, PI Financial Corp.) discussing smart business strategies to boost your bottom line.
