The City of Portage la Prairie is finally commencing operations at city hall after being shuttered by the pandemic.

The decision has been made to open the doors to allow the public to conduct business.

City councillor Wayne Wall says operations will be done differently.

"There's a change in how you enter and exit City Hall. Usually, people come in through the east door. now we're using the west door as an entrance and the east door as an exit. There will be a security person to guide you in and to make sure too many people don't go into City Hall."

Other facilities like the Fire Hall, wastewater plant, and operations office are still closed to the public.

Wall says city council will still be done conducting their business online.

"We councillors will be calling in from home. People can watch it via live stream, or after it's done on the YouTube channel. If you want to make a presentation, you can write to the city or call."
