The Portage Cobras tightened their grip on first place in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's 6th Division Wednesday. They took out Polonia 2-1 but lost two of their own players while doing so.

The Cobras and Polonia were tied at 1 late in the second half when Connor Green scored from a long way out with a lob shot over the top of their opponent's keeper. Donald Lewis scored Portage's first goal earlier on in the match. He fired one into the box and it found its way into the net after hitting a few players in the way.

"This one here was an ugly one but it was still a good one," says Lewis. "We got a great start this year. We're just really playing together and the chemistry is good. We just have to make sure we get the practice in and at game time we're good."

The Cobras lost two players in the final 15 minutes of the match and an ambulance was called to the field. Daylen and Connor Green both went down after being tackled in the opponents end of the field with possible head injuries.

Lewis says it's a tough situation but they have to finish the season strong and hopefully, his teammates will be okay. The Cobras are back on the pitch Monday when they host last place Landmark FC at Rotary.
