The Portage and District Community Foundation shared that they are taking applications for their Fall Bursaries for 2024. President of the Community Foundation, Warren Neufeld, says they have lots of money to give away this year.

"We have about, $96,000 in total that we'll be granting out. Some of that is attached to PCI, and they look after some of the granting through the high school. But there are probably about a dozen bursaries available to anybody living in Portage la Prairie and the Portage region to apply for."

Neufeld notes that some bursaries are for specific fields of study, but that there is some flexibility in those awards.

"Some of them are specific, whether that be science or a few different things, but there is some leeway there. The primary thing is that, if you're going to post-secondary education and you're looking for a little bit of extra funding, or little bit of extra help with money, phone the Foundation office, and talk to one of the people there. Talk to them about what you're doing, and they'll be able to answer all your questions, and maybe direct you to apply for the one that makes sense for you."

Neufeld outlines that the application deadline is May 15, and to submit your application as early as you can.

He adds that they are meeting soon to discuss their Spring grants as well, with around $186,000 in grants to give away, and over $400,000 in requests, so decisions will be made in the near future.
