The 2024 budget announcement sparked a mix of reactions from RMs, as discussed by Kam Blight, President of the Association of Manitoba Municipalities.

Positives included a 2 per cent increase in operating and infrastructure funding, though concerns lingered about meeting inflation rates. Healthcare investments, such as $23 million for rural medical transportation and the restoration of the Doctor Recruitment Fund, were welcomed.

Blight described issues like insufficient investment in water infrastructure and public safety as areas needing attention.

The President expressed optimism about future conversations with the provincial government, with ministers already reaching out to address municipal concerns. Looking ahead, there's anticipation for constructive discussions at the upcoming convention.

"We're looking forward to the ongoing dialogue that we're going to have with the province. In fact there's been a couple of ministers that have already reached out to hear more about our thoughts and concerns on the recent budget. I'm very encouraged by that."
