Many of us spent at least part of last weekend shovelling the snow we've received, and it was the same for the City of Portage la Prairie.

City Councillor Brent Froese reminds us about helping them do that.

"Move your car on the day after garbage day, when snow clearing will happen on your street," he says, "To make sure the equipment has room to manoeuvre, and clear your street properly. Parked cars a bit of a hazard and an inconvenience, and the City does have the right to tow your car, if it's in the way of the machine."

Froese talks about what else we're obligated to do.

"Citizens are responsible for clearing the sidewalk in front of their property," he says, "Don't push the now onto the roadway, as that snow will sit there, and be a hazard to traffic. Especially businesses, the earlier in the morning you can clear that sidewalk, and put down some salt and sand to make it safe for the pedestrians, the better."

On another subject, Froese also points out the ice on Crescent Lake won't be thick enough to walk on until after Christmas.
