The Central Plains Cancer Services will be adding a new program to the mix starting in 2020.

Executive Director Sharilyn Knox outlines what you can expect to see coming.

"Our focus at the organization is that as we grow, we want to make sure we're providing programs and services for our cancer patients that help them throughout the whole journey. We know that wellness is an important part, so we're starting a new aquatic program for cancer patients."

The Program is called Take a Splash Aquatic Program with Central Plains Cancer Services. Knox talks about why they chose to start it.

"We know that aquatics and aquafit is such great exercise for people because it's easy on the joints, and anybody can get involved," says Knox. "It's a free program that's going to start on January 6th. There's no cost to take part in the program, we just need to know who's interested in taking part."

To learn more and sign up, you can call them at 204-857-6100. Knox notes that it's the perfect workout.

"The reason is it's a low impact form of exercise. It reduces pain by adding buoyancy in the water to take the pressure off of your joints," says Knox. "They also say that water has a calming effect on your mental health, which leads to better moods and reduced stress. We feel it will be perfect for our cancer patients."

She also wants people to stay in tune to the CPCS because there's more to come in 2020.
