Thursday afternoon saw the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council (DOTC) hold a Co-Ed Slo Pitch Tournament at Rotary Republic of Manitobah Park. Everything was free of charge and included kids activities, a barbecue lunch with prizes.

"Today's events are mostly geared toward two things," explains CEO Robert Daniels. "One, to have our programs come out and showcase what they have for programs and services. It's so that we can hire more people from our communities. It's sort of a recruitment kind of strategy."

"We and the city were invited by DOTC," adds Portage Revitalization Corporation Indigenous community coordinator Cornell Pashe. "That was a part of an objective with the position I am with. It's to improve relations on the indigenous side and vice versa. So, we were invited to be a part of their co-ed tourney to learn more about DOTC."

Pashe says they had enough to fill a team and hopes to see the one-day event help build relationships and put some faces to names in the future.

"The booths are set up," continues Daniels. "Everybody has set up their different displays, and whatnot. There are materials for job openings and those kinds of things."

Daniels adds it's the 45th anniversary year for the DOTC as well.
