Sunday afternoon, Portage la Prairie's Tupper Street Family Resource Centre held a coffee house and art sale fundraiser at their downtown facility, which drew an enthusiastic and engaged crowd.

Centre board member Anne Johnston-Peters says fundraising's something they have to do.

"We'd like to be able to expand programming," she says, "To be able to offer more to our community in terms of the kind of programs we can offer to young families. So we decided we need to do some fundraising -- we've had requests to expand programs, and that's what we're out to do."

Centre Executive Director Rhoda Wolfe's more than pleased.

"This makes my heart so happy," she says, "I feel that we are so accepted in this community, and that people really care about us, and care about what we're doing. Everybody's just talking, having a good time, and this really shows us that we are a part of this community."

She and Johnston-Peters add they plan to do more fundraising events in the future. Local artists donated their work for the sale, while Cafe on Prince provided food and barista service.

All smiles for Executive Director Rhoda Wolfe, board members Anne Johnston-Peters and Barry Rudd
