It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas -- just a few weeks late.

Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Dave Carlsen says they've been checking snow fall amounts all over the region from the last two days.

"It looks like generally eight to ten centimetres fell over the Portage region, and really over most of southern Manitoba," says Carlsen. "If you go a bit north into the Interlake, there were some spots that had fifteen, but by and large, it was about eight to ten."

According to forecasts, not much more snow is expected over the next little while. Carlsen says a cold snap is coming first.

"People of Portage la Prairie should expect a pretty cold couple of days, especially today and tonight," says Carlsen. "We're looking at some wind chills approaching that minus forty wind chill threshold for an extreme cold warning. After that, it's going to warm up a little bit for a couple of days, it looks like we're in the deep freeze."

There will be a brief reprieve, before we go back to extreme cold.

"After this coming weekend, and maybe after Monday, we're really going to plunge into the deep freeze and it looks like we're going to be in the cold for a week or maybe even more after that," says Carlsen. "We can probably look ahead to seeing some more wind chill warnings coming next week."
