Main Gallery Information

The Portage & District Arts Centre accepts Call for Entry applications between September and December annually. Submitted exhibition proposals are reviewed by PDAC’s Exhibition Committee and are considered for exhibition in our PDAC’s Main Gallery. Exhibitions are usually scheduled two years in advance. This gives you plenty of time to create a new body of works.

All Artists and Artist Groups are invited to submit entries of their work for exhibition. All accepted exhibition proposals must contain original work, which have never been exhibited by the Portage & District Arts Centre. 25 - 40 art pieces are recommended to fill the main gallery properly.

In order to be considered by the Exhibition Committee, proposals must include the following:

1.Brief Artist’s Statement (max 300 words)
2.Artist Resume or Curriculum Vitae (max 2 pages)
3.Recent Artist Biography (background information for promotional purposes)
4.Proposal with brief exhibit synopsis, exhibit title and quantity of exhibition pieces
5.CD or DVD with good quality jpegs of at least 10 artworks to be featured in the exhibition. Each jpeg must be titled, numbered and in the correct viewing orientation for easy review. All jpegs must be true and clearly depict the respective artwork. Please do not attach label stickers to the CD or DVD
6.Descriptive List: Include jpeg number, title, medium, dimensions and date of work
7.A stamped, self-addressed envelope for return of material

Hanging Requirement
PDAC utilizes a standard hanging-chain system for most two-dimensional artworks. A minimum of two (2) gallery chains will be utilized for each work of art. Three-dimensional and/or sculptural works will be secured in exhibit cases or displayed on the gallery floor with stanchions.

Wooden Frames
Two (2) eyelet screws, straphangers or D-rings must be installed on the back of the frame (left and right), 2” from the top corners. We use S-hooks to fasten pictures to the chains.

Metal Frames
Please adjust wire mounts to the highest position on the back of the frame. Please have work prepared and ready to install prior to its arrival. Artwork that is not ready for installation may not be included in the exhibition.

NOTE: If awarded an exhibition, all artwork MUST be ready to install according to PDAC’s Installation Requirements.
In the main gallery, the installation committee and PDAC staff will stage your exhibition for you. A special opening reception will be held that usually features an artist talk, Q&A, and refreshments.

Please contact Portage & District Arts Centre at: pdac@mts.net or 204-239-6029 if you have any questions or concerns regarding your entry.
