The causeway to the Island in Portage la Prairie is almost complete. It's been open for use for several days now, and access to and from Crescent Road west through the north roundabout has been cut off for the time being.

Mayor Irvine Ferris gives an update on the remainder of the project.

"Last week, the contractors removed both the rock from the temporary causeway to start shaping for landscaping, and this week the curbs and concrete islands on the south and the north side of roundabouts will be going in," says Ferris. "And then after that, the following week, asphalt will be completed to the west side."

Ferris says they're also adding temporary lighting that's going to be installed this week and will be in place until the contractor can complete all the electrical work in early November.

"So, it's coming along," adds Ferris. "I really appreciate people being patient with the whole project, but we're getting near to completion."
