Big Brothers Big Sisters Central Plains (BBBS) will be holding its annual duck race August 16, but you have to act fast to get involved as tickets are only on-sale until 10 a.m. today.

Dawn Froese, executive director for BBBS, says the race will actually be more like a raffle, as they were unsure if the COVID restrictions would've allowed the race to continue as normal at the time of planning. She explains how the duck race will work for this year.

"People buy a raffle ticket, and the number on the ticket is also the number on a duck," notes Froese. "A staff person will be blindfolded and they will go into a pit with the ducks and they will draw the three winners."

She adds prizes include a Toro mower, donated by Mazergroup, as well as $75 gift cards for both MR. MIKES and RONA. She goes into detail on where the money will be going.

"The money raised from the duck race goes to support mentoring programs in Portage, Oakville, MacGregor and Gladstone," explains Froese. "We have a number of mentoring programs that we run and we want to continue to run those, especially in these times because youth stress levels were high this past year and we want to make sure that we're able to offer them a mentor who can be there for them and can support them."

She says this year's race will be livestreamed to Facebook Live. Prices for the duck race are one for $5, three for $10 or 10 for $20. To purchase your duck race tickets, click here.
