New LED lights will start saving money for Stride Place.

Portage Regional Recreation Authority General Manager David Sattler says the LED lights will help the complex save money in the long run.

"This project is possible through Manitoba Hydro PAYS Financing," Sattler explains. "What that means is Manitoba Hydro pays for all the up front costs for the fixtures, as well as the installation."

Sattler says the life expectancy of the LED lights is 100,000 hours, while previous lights had a 2,500-5,000 hour expectancy. He adds the change to LED will save on Hydro consumption, maintenance and replacement.

Sattler says they will be changing 80 percent of their lights to LEDs.
