A house on Crescent Road West in Portage la Prairie has been bringing joy with its spectacular light shows for people in the community for years.

John and Rosemary Sushelintsky have lived there since 1970, and John says Rosemary is the brain behind the lights.

"I think my wife has had a fascination with lights, she's really the one who's the creative genius behind it. I do what I'm told, and it gives her a lot of pleasure, so it's worth doing."

Sushelintsky says it's hard to pinpoint exactly when they started.

"It seems to me that we've been doing it for 20 years -- maybe 25 -- we've been here since '70. So I think the last 20 or 25 years we've been doing it. It's been building, it's not as though we said we'd do 6 at one time. We probably started in a modest way with Halloween and Christmas, and then just as time has gone on we've added."

He says people are always asking about their lights.

"People always ask us where we store them, and we have an attic on the north side of the house that is strictly devoted to the decorations. My wife has them stored in a very organized way, so that when we take one down we put another one in."

Sushelintsky says he enjoys setting up the lights, except for when one stand goes out. He says it can take hours to find which bulbs are dead.
