A Portage cadet travelled to Winnipeg to experience a five-day Cadet Activity Program earlier this month.

Corporal Aiden Hustins of 575 Terrier, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Portage, says, after having his dad teach him about photography, he enjoyed visiting the imagery section at 17 Wing Winnipeg.. Taking in how the Canadian Armed Forces do it was a neat experience for him.

"I've grown a lot since I've become a cadet. It helped me become more mature and taught me a lot about discipline," explains Hustins. "One day, I hope to work with the Canadian Armed Forces as a mechanical engineer."

The five-day program also involved different challenges for Hustins to participate in, including marksmanship, biathlon, and team-building exercises with the other attending cadets.

"I think others should join Cadets because it's a fun program and you learn a lot about the military," says Hustins.

The Canadian Cadet Program is open to all youth between the ages of 12-18 years old. For air cadets in Portage La Prairie, contact 575 Terrier, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, at (204)-428-2546.
