The Manitoba Loud Music Awards will be looking to promote and celebrate the heavier side of the music scene.

Founder of Badlands Promotions Dag Aymont grew up in Portage and says some artists in Manitoba are very underappreciated and wanted to make an award show to let them know that people are enjoying their music. The award show looks to put genres such as punk, metal, and rock on a pedestal that usually is reserved for more mainstream music genres.

"On Friday night we have vocalist of the year, guitarist of the year, bassist to the year, drummer of the year, and Female-fronted of the year," explains Aymont. "Then, on Saturday we have metal band of the year, punk band of the year, hardcore band of the year, rock band of the year, cover band of the year, and tribute band of the year."

He add

s as the weekend continues, they will be giving out awards for albums of the year in those genres, as well as awards for photographers and videographers. He notes that the awards will all be decided by the public.

"The nomination period ran all summer long, then in September, we opened up the voting period," notes Aymont. "We've had quite a few votes on there and for this month we've been focused on promoting it."

If everything goes as planned they intend to grow the music awards around the province and give everyone a chance, even if they can't travel.

"We want the next generation musician to see that this is still something that we're fighting to keep alive," explains Aymont. "The live music experience is unlike anything you'll ever experience."

The Loud Music Awards will run from November 19-21, at the Bulldog Event Centre in Winnipeg.
