Manitoba First Nation Police have laid a slew of weapon charges against a man after a pursuit in Sandy Bay.

The incident took place on October 3, 2020, at 12:55 a.m. The MFNPS K-9 unit was on patrol when they noticed a car was driving around at a high rate of speed.

Police initiated a traffic stop, but the driver would not stop. A vehicle pursuit would ensue for 30 minutes.

During the chase, the suspect intentionally rammed a marked Police unit in an attempt to escape. Minor damage was sustained on the car, but the officer was uninjured. The suspect tried to escape by foot, but K-9 CETO stopped him.

A 30-year-old man from Sandy Bay First Nation faces the following charges: Assault on Police Officer with a Weapon, Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, Unauthorized Possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, Possession of a firearm contrary to an order, Possession of a firearm when knowing unauthorized, Failure to comply with a release order, Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle, Resisting arrest, and Flight from Police.

The suspect was held in custody and will be appearing in court at a later date.
