The search for a 61-year-old man near Westbourne continues today. Leslie Gordon Levasseur of Sandy Bay First Nation hasn't been seen since Sunday afternoon, and the Amaranth RCMP has been coordinating a search since that time. The man was last seen by a witness who had called the RCMP, leaving his black truck on Road 51 North, and walking into a ditch. However, the search and rescue crews have not heard any reports since that time. Police issued a media release late last night, indicating Levasseur has a medical condition, that can often cause confusion or disorientation.

RCMP Constable Sean O'Keefe notes they have a combination of volunteers, and trained search and rescue personnel on the ground, who are using many different tools to help and locate Levasseur.

"Our officers are trained in search and rescue, and utilize a lot of different methods in finding people. Different technologies used, whether it's drones or infrared cameras. I'm assuming they're using all of the available resources they can to locate Mr. Levasseur."

O'Keefe says he can only imagine how stressful it is for the family, especially as the search has continued for more more than 36 hours. He says anyone who may have information regarding where Levasseur may be should contact their local RCMP as soon as possible.

O'Keefe says they're also open to working more closely with the public. He says with the command centre set up in Westbourne, and that's interested in helping with the search and rescue efforts should stop there, rather than searching by themselves.

"Our Search and Rescue team has a command centre on site, just off of highway 16 around Road 51. All of the coordinated efforts for searching will proceed from that location. If somebody is interested in volunteering they can attend that scene and hopefully speak with a commander there to put their name down."

The RCMP describe Levasseur as approximately 5'10" with a medium build, and silver-grey hair which was last seen in a ponytail.
