With the Conservative sweep of much of western Canada in this month's federal election, there's been talk about western provinces leaving Confederation.

Selkirk-Interlake-Eastman MP James Bezan says this often happens when a Liberal government's elected.

"We have either western alienation or Quebec sovereignty issues," he says. "And we end up in these discussions around the federal unity crisis."

Bezan doesn't support separation.

"Let's fight to keep Canada strong and united," he says. "Let's not get into a big panic about the state of Confederation just because of the person sitting in the prime minister's office. We will have a chance to defeat Justin Trudeau in the future, and let's put our energies toward doing just that."
