The Portage Community Revitalization Corporation has a new Community Engagement Coordinator. Sonali Kapoor took on the role after being the Skills-Up assistant with the organization. She's only been in the role a week so far and describes what it's been like.

"It's been wonderful," says Kapoor. "Hopefully, I will be connecting with people in the community. So, I 'm very excited about this role. We hold events and try and get the community together."

Kapoor notes she's a newcomer to Portage, having arrived here last year, and enjoyed what she calls a great experience of being here.

"So, it's big for me to be a community facilitator and kind of a give-back from my side," she adds.

She shares what it's been like for her moving from New Delhi to Portage, facing the colder winters here.

"I think we are geared up for it," Kapoor continues. "We'd heard so much about it being really brutal, but we managed the first one. From plus 50 to minus 50 was a huge change, but I think my kids are excited and so am I. We're ready to face the second one."

Kapoor has two sons and says they've loved the snow during their first winter.

She says her Community Engagement Coordinator role allows her to bring the perspective that the community is not just comprised of people who've lived here for a long time. It also includes newcomers and helping them to adjust to the community.
