The Portage and District Chamber of Commerce has presented its nominees for the upcoming 21st edition of its business awards at the William Glesby Centre.

Executive director Cindy McDonald says everything's still a go for the in-person event this year.

"Well, fingers crossed that we get to host in-person," says McDonald. "We're really, really hopeful that it's going to happen on Friday, November 19th. Last year, we had to do it virtually, and it's just not the same. I mean, we're excited to hand out our awards, but it's not the same as seeing all those nominees in person and getting a chance to really, really celebrate them."

She notes they have quite a diverse list of businesses this year.

"We had quite a diverse lineup last year as well, and I just think that it makes it so much more exciting and more difficult to choose the winners, obviously," continues McDonald. "The diversity is very, very exciting, and we're so thankful for people that have nominated and took the time to nominate people."

The categories are:

  • Outstanding Business of the Year.
  • Outstanding Nonprofit of the Year.
  • Outstanding New Entrepreneur of the Year.
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Community by a Business.

"Now, our Outstanding New Entrepreneur is our newest category and we're really, really excited about that one," adds McDonald. "We have four nominated in that one this year, and all just amazing entrepreneurs. We're so proud of all of them and what a great category that is, and a great way to celebrate those entrepreneurs that have only been in business from over one year and under five years."

She notes there will not be actual tickets, but spots will go on sale next Monday.
