The town of Oakville has just finished year one of a five-year fundraiser to build a new community hall and daycare. The fundraiser just reached $250,000 and fundraising committee member Karen Olafson says she feels this milestone will help get the people of Oakville behind the effort.

"It's exciting to see that sticker go on, and we're certainly hoping that by people seeing the sticker go on, they realize that we're committed to doing this, and it will help our fundraising efforts by getting people excited about it."

The projects goal is $2.5 million. The committee has hosted a number of events trying to bolster the amount of funds coming in, including a slow-pitch tournament as well as a 50/50 draw. Those two events raised over $5,000. If you would like to help the fundraiser, you can contact Olafson at (204) 856-6504 or you can email her at kdolafson@hotmail.com
