Oakville School students can now enjoy its brand new play structure, as the ribbon cutting was held last week.

Principal Darryl Patterson says, following multiple failed attempts at obtaining grants for the structure, they took to fundraising to get as far along as they could. He notes how the community really pushed the envelope to help out with the fundraising.

"Our community and business community stepped up to raise $50,339. The total cost of the play structure was $125,267, and the school division covered the rest," explains Patterson. "It was a tremendous fundraising effort from parents of the school, former students, and as well as the business community."

He adds the new play structure was constructed by Playgrounds-R-Us, and says the structure has been packed since opening day. He explains all the ways you can utilize the play structure.

"There's a smaller slide and a larger slide, with lots of rope and climbing items," says Patterson. "There's a rope swing that spins, and there's also a couple of musical drums that you can make a beat with."

The play structure also contains a balance beam, monkey bars, and a small zipline.

"Special thanks to all of our businesses and our families that donated to it," says Patterson. "It wouldn't have been possible without their tremendous contributions, and it's greatly appreciated."
