Stats released by Operation Red Nose show more people in Portage are getting involved with the program. Coordinator Leo Lapointe says over 100 teams of volunteers participated in helping people get home safely, and close to 600 rides were given. Lapointe noted that volunteers drove a total of over 12,000 kilometres.

"We went 12 thousand, 535 kilometers. We did a lot of driving in and around Portage," says Lapointe. "It's always good to see that people used the service and kept themselves from drinking and driving"

The program wasn't only a success with the amount of volunteers, according to Lapointe, its donations reached close to $13,500, beating last year by two thousand dollars. All proceeds go towards Portage minor hockey. Lapointe adds the program was a success in Portage and all over Manitoba.
