The Portage Padres are the lone undefeated team left in the Santa Clara Baseball League.

The Padres doubled up the Cubs 6-3 Tuesday night on the road in Neepawa in a battle of league heavyweights to move into first place in league standings.

Down a pair of runs in the top of the 7th, Landon Thomson led off the inning with a base hit to get the late-game heroics started. The Padres were able to capitalize on some defensive miscues and control issues from Cubs pitching to cash in five runs in an inning where all nine Padres batters came to the plate.

Joey Moffatt threw a complete game while striking out six to collect the victory. On the offensive side of things, Lane Taylor went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI while Garrett Maly had a pair of RBIs.

The Padres are back in action Aug. 5 when the club welcomes the Royals to town. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., at Rotary Republic of Manitobah Park.
