Thanks to a facelift in the form of a name change, the Portage Abuse Prevention Centre will now be known as Prairie Harbour.

Kim Lavallee, executive director with the organization, shares what prompted the change.

"We felt that the Portage Family Abuse Prevention Center was too long for one thing, but also it had kind of a negative slant to it, and we wanted something that reflected Portage, or the prairies more and harbours of course is a safe place to be."

Lavallee says that the board has been interested in a name change for several years and finally decided to go ahead with the decision effective this last Tuesday.

She notes that this process isn't an easy one.

"There's a lot of work to it, of course, with changing your logo, changing our emails, notifying everyone, and so we're just in the process of doing that."

Lavallee adds that Portage Harbour would like to thank the public very much for their continued support, especially over the holiday season that has just passed.
