"The main focus for fire prevention week this year is 'Serve Up Kitchen Safety'," says Carpenter.

He describes what they will be doing to spread awareness.

"The Firefighters Burn Fund has purchased some oven mitts and some potholders," explains Carpenter. "We also have education pamphlets we'll be handing out."

He notes they will dropping the pamphlets, potholders, and oven mitts off as a safety reminder at care homes around town. Carpenter says one of the biggest points is to never leave your kitchen unattended while cooking.

Fire prevention week began October 4th and will be taking place until the 10th.
