The Portage la Prairie Regional Library has wrapped up its card redesign contest, and is proud to announce three new library card designs.

Jen Kendall, director of the library, says they received over 100 entries for the contest which while expected, was still a very nice turnout. She goes into detail about why she's feeling so positive about the contest.

"We have a really strong community base, the staff and I expected a really good turn out and for people to be enthusiastic about it," explains Kendall. "Obviously, we're not disappointed at all, we thought it was great."

She adds she was very impressed with the quality of all three age groups, with all of them having stunning designs. The winner for the under 12 category was Dagny Tang, the winner of the teen category was Jayda Cannon, and the winner of the adult category was Ember Rodgers. She explains why they decided to pick the winners that they did.

"What stood out for us, especially with the under 12 and the teen cards was the use of imagination and where books can take you," says Kendall. "Then with our adult winner it was just a nice cozy feeling. There were images of books and flowers and it just felt really cozy to all of us."

She adds the library also announced a brand new logo, which features a more modernized design. She goes into detail on why she felt it was time to make a change.

"When we started looking at the cards and everything, we realized it was time to update a little bit," explains Kendall. "I spoke to Suzy (Laevens), who is a staff member here, and an excellent artist, and she was inspired by the river and the crescent shape of the lake."

She says the agriculture in Portage also played a big part in their new logo.
