Portage la Prairie police were busy on March 14th dealing with two different issues.

First, they were notified of an assault that had taken place on the 6th on Cottonwood Drive in the Rural Municipality of Portage. A 33-year-old man suffered a severe injury at the time and the information provided allowed police to arrest 21-year-old Kelly Myran of Portage. He was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and was remanded into custody.

In another incident later that day, police received a report of a stolen vehicle from the 100 block of Saskatchewan Avenue East. Officers searched the nearby area and found the vehicle on Oak Bay. 26-year-old Izzy Vermette got out of the vehicle, and when told he was under arrest, began walking away. When the officer got a hold of him, the suspect resisted arrrest, and tried to pull away. The officer placed him into handcuffs, and he is now facing multiple charges including Theft of Motor Vehicle, Theft Under $5000, Mischief Over $5000 and Resist Arrest. He was later released conditionally by the courts.
