The Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a string of impaired driving calls over the past week.

The first incident occurred on the evening of June 19. Police say they were flagged down and informed about a collision on Saskatchewan Avenue East and 3rd Street NE.

As officers arrived, they spotted the driver of the vehicle still in the driver's seat, and when officers interacted, it was evident the driver was impaired.

He faces charges of impaired operation of a conveyance, operation of a conveyance while over 80 mg per cent, uttering threats, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

A few hours later, Portage RCMP received another call regarding a hit and run on Highway #1 west of Portage. RCMP say officers received an earlier report about the same vehicle driving erratically, heading eastbound on Highway #1. Police say they conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 44-year-old man. A subsequent breath sample proved the motorist was near twice the legal limit.

Officers say the man faces charges including operating a conveyance while over 80mg per cent, failure to stop after an accident, and resisting arrest.

Lastly, on June 20, in the early morning, officers say they received a request from Headingley RCMP to be on the lookout for an impaired driver travelling west on Highway #1.

Officers began patrolling and say they located the vehicle heading west near Highway #13.

Police say a 27-year-old from the R.M of Portage showed signs of impairment and refused to provide a breath sample. He was arrested and charged with failure or refusal to comply with breath demand.

All three drivers have their vehicles impounded for a minimum of 60 days and have received court dates.
