Mother nature rocked Portage la Prairie Wednesday with weather that even a snow globe would fear.

Mass amounts of snow mixed with high winds have caused very poor driving conditions, and those driving through the city will get no relief from snow ploughs the rest of the day, according to Portage's Operations Department.

Manager of Public Works Brian Taylor explains that he has had to pull all snow plough equipment off the roads due to poor sight lines on Wednesday.

"I was going out to certain areas and couldn't even see the road anymore, so I pulled the equipment off," he says.

Taylor adds that the ploughs will return to the streets early Thursday morning to start clearing priority streets.

As for drivers needing to get home from wherever they are? The city notes that citizens should drive cautiously and be prepared for frustrating scenarios.

"Once you're stuck, you're stuck. Tomorrow morning, we'll make a game plan seeing how bad it is everywhere, and we definitely will start it off with the priority streets."
