Schools are taking part in a program created by the Family Resource Centre in Portage la Prairie focusing on physical education students enjoying traditional Indigenous games.

Resource Coordinator Vienna Muise says Aaron Pierre will be teaching, and Long Plain First Nation is partnering.

"They're going to allow us to host some of these games," explains Muise. "They're going to help out with transportation. Some of the kids that have learned, if they're interested, can be taken to play. That will take place closer to March."

However, she notes, that some students started learning today (Friday, Jan. 12), and they can participate later, too.

While they're ironing out some of the details of the work with Long Plain, there are talks of potentially hosting it at the MNP building in Portage.

"They've been wonderful as far as involvement, partnering, and looking at different ways that we can do things is concerned," adds Muise. "I was super happy that Arrowhead Development reached out to us. We had a meeting and they're quite excited about partnering in different youth recreation things that we can do. So, we're very excited."
