A Portage la Prairie couple's beautiful yard has won the Manitoba Good Roads Association Burgess Shield Award. Lori and Dave Judson received the award at Tuesday night's Manitoba Good Roads Association annual awards banquet in Brandon.

Lori Judson says many other yards could've been chosen.

"It was certainly very special to us," says Judson. "When we realized what it was, that we had won for the populations of 7,500 and over in rural Manitoba... that's really special for us. We know there are lots and lots of people who enjoy gardening and put a lot of work into their yards, and I'm sure for most gardeners it's a very enjoyable experience. We know there were many places out there that were certainly worthy if not more than us. But we're very fortunate that this was our year."

Judson says they're proud the city nominated and chose them for the award. They received a plaque with their names on it. Judson notes a favourite part of their yard is the
that they can catch a breeze off the lake at almost any area in the yard.

Judson notes her and her husband have been gardening since 1985, and since 1995 at their home.
