As the year comes to a close, Regional Campus Manager Guy Moffat from the Red River College Polytechnic Portage campus is looking back.

Moffat states that the difference he saw in 2022 compared to 2021 and 2020 is night and day coming out of COVID.

"I don't think I ever want to go through a pandemic again," says Moffat with a smile as he cherishes a year, mostly, away from COVID restrictions, especially after June.

"What was really nice, though, is that we were able to do a celebration of learning for any of the graduates that graduated in 2020-2021," continues Moffat. "So, anyone graduating from the Portage campus had the ability and invitation to convocation with the students in Winnipeg."

Moffat explains that another item he is proud of that Red River College brought to life this year was how they expanded their virtual lessons and ways to share content with other centres.

"Before the pandemic ever happened, we were using webcams and headsets, and we would broadcast out some of our content. Because of the pandemic, we got really, really good at it."

The Regional Campus Manager says the technology includes a camera that will move and track the instructor while also zooming in and out on people in the audience.

"It brings the whole classroom from Winkler, Steinbach, Selkirk right into the classroom in Portage la Prairie. It is an amazing technology that we have."

Moffat also highlighted other programs launched to help meet needs for industries in significant need, such as health care and food manufacturing, something he is proud to continue doing in 2023.
