Manitoba RCMP has announced crime stats for February, which compares this year's February to last.

The RCMP has reported that the Manitoba west district, which contains Portage la Prairie, has seen a decrease in every statistical category, except for crimes against property which barely saw an increase, going from 400 calls to 401. Theft under $5,000 rose from 75 to 114, theft over $5,000 increased from 29 to 33, and break and enter jumped from 68 to 74. Fraud, however, decreased from 59 to 45.

Calls regarding drug enforcement dropped off from 50 to 26, with the largest drop coming from trafficking calls, which went down from 41 to 15.

Crimes against the person had a very slight decrease, going from 254 to 247. Assaults, however, increased, jumping from 140 to 151.

Common police activities had a slight decrease in calls, falling from 392 to 387. The highest decreases were persons reported missing going down from 36 to 24 and breach of peace dropping from 109 to 79.
