Red River College Polytech is finalizing its new five-year lease with Southport.

The facility in Southport will be the home of the Aircraft Maintenance Journeyperson (AMJ) course for the duration of the lease. This location is one of two RRC Polytech campuses in the Portage la Prairie area.

As part of the commitment, RRC Polytech will work alongside employers, communities, students, staff, and faculty to conduct a sector review regarding Aviation and Aerospace. This review will allow RRC to look into what the needs of the sector will be going forward.

Some of the topics they'll look into include skill gaps, program accessibility for rural and northern communities, and what supports need to be incorporated to drive the academic success of Indigenous learners.

Earlier this year, RRC Polytech tried to relocate the AMJ course to the Stevenson campus in Winnipeg, but it was deferred due to the complex program needs and rising construction costs, and supply chain challenges. Following the sector review, they'll re-evaluate to see if it's feasible.
