The Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie is examining how to be more efficient with the water usage within the Poplar Bluff Industrial Park.

The Manitoba government is providing the RM $55,000 to conduct a study on the best way to make this happen.

Kyle Hamilton, Director of Public Works and Utilities for the RM, explains that this study will be looking at the process of wastewater treatment through the park.

Hamilton says the study will also look at what the RM can do with the wastewater from those industrial processes and where it goes, whether it's back to the city's wastewater treatment plant, the Assiniboine River or another water body.

Right now, Roquette, K&G Mushrooms, Simplot, Enns Brothers, JL Agronomics, and Overton Environmental are all in the park and would be affected by this study.

The RM states that Simplot and the City of Portage have provided letters of support for this proposed study and will provide necessary wastewater quality and flow information for the study.

The RM has requested Stantec to submit a proposal to conduct the study, and that they would like it to be done by no later than December 30th.
