Recreation Opportunities for Kids Central (ROK) and the Portage Bear Clan recently held their "ROK'n the Block" event, which allows kids ages 6 - 12 to explore Portage and see what the Bear Clan does for the community.

ROK's executive director Vienna Muise says she and Manon Timshel with the Bear Clan put it together, and they're very happy with the turnout for the event. There were nine children there, all accompanied by their guardians.

"It started out at the library, so we all met up there," notes Muise. "We had a talk about listening, using our eyes, what do we do if we see something, and how do we alert someone?"

She adds, they started the day at the library, then made their way to the pantry by Red River College to fill it up. Muise says it was nice to see the kids all trying to make sure their items made it into the pantry.

"We started meeting just before 1 p.m. and it was maybe 30 minutes or more," says Muise. "We took our time in making sure we're safe while crossing (the street) and we had our wagons of stuff we were taking to the pantry."

She mentions they also had supplies for anybody that they came across while out on their walk.

Muise says they plan on holding more Bear Cub Walk events in the future.
